About VYTT


VYTT does not follow one specific lineage but instead follows the history and ever changing evolution of yoga. Throughout VYTT each student will experience a lecture from a working professional in the study of medicine, health, nutrition, anatomy, or physiology. Each student will also be exposed to various forms of yoga disciples by attending lectures and classes by guest teachers who are active and currently teaching in their school of study. Importantly, VYTT is rooted in Ashtanga and emphasizes strict discipline in Ashtanga history, practicum, asana, and pranayama. Ashtanga gives each student a basic and comprehensive knowledge of breath, body, mindfulness, and intuitive connection to themselves and others. Shannon Hancock is the gifted and talented Ashtanga and Kundalini Lead Instructor while Natalie Peach Wolf is the creative Vinyasa and Yin Lead Instructor. Shannon offers extensive knowledge in Ayurvedic health and wellness, the oldest and most holistic healing systems in the world. Shannon is a leader in Kundalini energy and Reiki. Natalie offers an innovative approach to developing Vinyasa sequencing, musicality, atmosphere, and meditation. Natalie also is an expert in Yin yoga sequencing, timing, and understanding of deep facia tissue release paired with respective breathing techniques. Together these two accomplished teachers give their trainees a well rounded understanding of yogic roots, history, present, and future development. Those who graduate from VYTT will not only be internationally recognized as completing a rigorous Registered Yoga Alliance School (RYS), but will be confident, creative, and versatile people who are capable teaching a yoga class and becoming leaders in the yoga community. VYTT is not simply a yoga teaching school, but we are a school that teaches a person what they are truly capable of.

VYTT Focuses on 4 schools of yoga all wrapped into one experience; Kundalini, Ashtanga, Vinyasa, and Yin.

Kundalini: An uplifting blend of spiritual and physical practices, Kundalini Yoga incorporates movement, dynamic breathing techniques, meditation, and the chanting of mantras, such as Sat Nam, meaning "truth is my identity." The goal is to build physical vitality and increase consciousness.

Ashtanga: Ashtanga yoga is a system of yoga recorded by the sage Vamana Rishi in the Yoga Korunta, an ancient manuscript "said to contain lists of many different groupings of asanas, as well as highly original teachings on vinyasa, drishti, bandhas, mudras, and philosophy" (Jois 2002 xv). The text of the Yoga Korunta "was imparted to Sri T. Krishnamacharya in the early 1900's by his Guru Rama Mohan Brahmachari, and was later passed down to Pattabhi Jois during the duration of his studies with Krishnamacharya, beginning in 1927" ("Ashtanga Yoga"). Since 1948, Pattabhi Jois has been teaching Ashtanga yoga from his yoga shala, the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute (Jois 2002 xvi), according to the sacred tradition of Guru Parampara.

Vinyasa: Vinyasa means "breath-synchronized movement". Vinyasa yoga is a series of poses that will move you through the power of inhaling and exhaling. Vinyasa movements are smoothly flowing and almost dance-like, which explains why it is sometimes referred to as Vinyasa Flow or just Flow. Vinyasa is creative and can be wither energetic or very soothing depending on the style of the teacher.

Yin: Yin Yoga, Initially called “Daoist” yoga, is a style of yoga targets the deep connective tissues of the body (vs. the superficial tissues) and the fascia that covers the body; this Daoist yoga is to help regulate the flow of energy in the body. Paul Grilley, who brought this concept to the forefront, accredits three main teachers for this concept, one of which is Paulie Zink, who taught him Daoist Yoga. Many teach Yin Yoga today, one of which is Sarah Powers, a student of Paul’s; although she teaches very different than Paul, while taking a Yin Yoga training from him in Chicago, he noted her credit for aligning the name “Yin Yoga” with this style.
